E-Commerce Reboot: Final Track - Revenue (7/8)
Create a Discount Ladder
Hi there! 👋
Wanna double your business without doubling the work?
Sure thing.
Mathematically there are only three ways to boost revenue in e-com.
→ Increase the average order value (AOV)
→ Increase the number of orders per customer (frequency or F)
→ Increase the total number of customers (C)
Let’s call these the Three Multipliers.
Share a random revenue growth hack, and I'll fit it into one of these.
Here's how it works.
Company A has 10 customers this week. Each ordered once, spending $100.
That's 10 x 1 x 100 = $1,000 in revenue.
Simple, right?
To double revenue, Company A could:
Double the number of customers
Double the order frequency
Double the AOV to $200
Any one of these would bump revenue to $2,000.
"But doubling any single multiplier is impossible," you say. "I'm already trying!"
The magic of the Three Multipliers: you don't need to double any single multiplier alone.
A 30% gain in each multiplier more than doubles revenue.
Check it out:
Company A BEFORE:
AOV: $100
Frequency: 1
Customers: 10
💵 Revenue: $1,000
Company A AFTER:
AOV: $130
Frequency: 1.3
Customers: 13
💵 Revenue: $2,197
That's a 220% increase!
A 30% bump in each is usually doable in a year, especially since most e-com businesses are underoptimized.
But some tactics are better than others. You could buy 30% more customers overnight with ads and discounts.
But that’s not sustainable.
For strong, profitable growth, follow a specific order with these Multipliers.
Stay tuned, have a great Sunday!
